STAR SP212 OR SP512 AUTOMATIC PRINTER INSTALLER FOR WINDOWS 2000 & XP

Note: First attempt to install using the Automatic Installation Instructions, If the installation program tells you to install manually (usually with latest version of Windows XP), then follow the manual installation instructions below.

AUTOMATIC INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Download the Star Automatic Printer Driver Installer from our web site www.apipos.com/download.htm (linemode_2k_xp_20030205.exe).

2. After the download completes, start the installation by double-clicking the file (linemode_2k_xp_20030205.exe).

3. Answer OK to the Welcome screen to automatically install the Star Driver.

4. Select the printer drive from t he list or available printers that corresponds to your printer. Either the Star SP212 Line Mode Printer or Star SP512 Line Mode Printer. Select LPT1:, for the port (unless installing to another printer port), then select the Automated Printer Install button.

5. The final few srceens are of the Star automatic installer are self-explanatory.

6. Open the POS Office.

7. Go to the Office's Setup, Receipt/Invoice. On the Universal Tab Select POS (Tape) Printer and Default = Print Receipts. Then select the POS (Tape) Printer Tab.

8. On the POS (Tape) Printer tab under Printer Driver, select SP212 (Windows 2000, xp) or SP512 (Windows 2000, xp) depending on the printer. Under the Advance After Print enter 7 to advance the paper past the tear bar for the SP212 or enter 3 for the SP512.

9. Now click the MORE SETTINGS button. Make sure that Set Print Width to 42 Column (bottom of second column) is NOT selected, click the Close button.

10. Select OK/Save.

11. If you have a cash drawer connected, select Setup, Equipment. On the Cash Drawer tab select Star or Citizen Printer (ASCII 7). Select OK/Save.

12. Open the POS Cash Register. If it was on the task bar, you must close it, then reopen it.

13. Select File, then Select Printer. Choose the Star SP212 Driver on the list. The cash register will remember this setting even if your Windows default printer is another printer.

Manual Installation Instructions Using the Windows Add Printer Wizard

A. Select the button in Stars Auto-Printer driver “Extract files for installation via Windows Add Printer Wizard”.

B. Go to Windows START button, select CONTROL PANEL, PRINTERS AND OTHER HARDWARD, ADD A PRINTER.

C. Select Next at the Welcome screen, then select Local Printer only, then Next, then appropriate LPT port, then Next.

D. On the Manufactures Screen select HAVE DISK, then BROWSE.

E. Browse to the STAR folder, if you download the driver file to a folder, the Star folder will be a subfolder of that one.

F. Double Click the Star folder to open it, then open the Star LM subfolder by double clicking.

G. Double Click the oemprint.inf file, then select OK on the next screen.

H. Select the Star SP512 (or SP212 if that is the Case) off the list of printers.

I. Select Next at each of the remaining screens, then Finish at the last screen.

J. Select “Continue Anyway” at Bill Gates’ Windows signature nonsense.

K. Return to Step 6 above.
